YALLWEST Author Visit: Jay Coles

We're in full on YALLWEST mode over here! One of the great perks of having this festival in Los Angeles is the ability to arrange an author visit at my school! We were lucky enough to get Jay Coles to stop by and sign copies of his book for the students. The students were so excited to meet him, and we presented him with gifts and drafts of stories students were working on. This visit was especially meaningful, because my students had experienced the death of a close friend at the hands of a police officer, which the characters in TYLER JOHNSON WAS HERE also deal with. Jay Coles told the students that the anger, sadness, and confusion they felt was ok, and that it could be used to create change.

The students were happy for the opportunity to meet Jay Coles and receive a free copy of his book. Some of them have already started reading it, and are giving it rave reviews!
